The Buddy initiative was set up to help children entering their first year of school to feel safer, more valued and connected to the school community. We pair each of our new P1 intake with an older buddy in Primary 7.
Throughout the year I meet with the P7 teacher and pupils to help them create and develop ideas for buddy activities, eg getting to know you, paired reading, buddy lunch or playground games training.

This framework builds strong relationships between P1 and P7. The younger students feel more secure, cared for and confident while the P7 students contribution helps them to feel valued and respected in the school community.

The Buddies are looking forward to a new year of activities.
Eco Committee

This year our Eco Committee gave out a questionnaire to every class asking for input on the topics that we are going to focus on.

The results are
School Grounds

If anyone has any ideas that they would like to share to help us take these topics forward, please inform a member from the Eco committee or pin it to the Ideas page on our noticeboard.

The children have also decided to apply for Craigbank Primary to become a Fairtrade School and so we are currently working towards our first award.
Health Committee

The Health Committee are responsible for promoting good health in our school and the local community. As a committee we will be organising health days and assemblies throughout the year to promote healthy living.

Pupil Council

This is our pupil council. They meet regularly to discuss whole school issues and organise events throughout the school year.

The pupil council are currently gathering ideas from the children around the school about some ways to improve playing in the playground at playtime and lunchtime. They have been encouraging everyone to use their pupil voice in order to make positive changes around the school. They are also working on the idea of themed dress down days, check our website for further announcements!

We look forward to the next Pupil Council meeting and will continue to work very hard to organise events and help to make the school as good as it can be.
Rights Respecting Schools Ambassadors
It is a great pleasure to introduce our new Ambassadors.

We have decided that our focus for this term should be:
  • to help all children in the school understand their rights even better
  • to realise that some children do not have their rights respected

We have decided to:

  • have an assembly to introduce ourselves and tell them what we'd like to do to help them understand more about rights
  • ask each class to put up their own display about rights
  • make a display for the school in a busy place with a 'Spotlight on a right' which will look at a right more closely
  • link our Health and Wellbeing (SHANNARI) with our rights
  • make sure that every display in school includes a link to right

Web Wizards

Our web wizards are in charge of keeping our school website up to date. They are learning how to upload photographs and how to edit text on the website. We will be whizzing around the web in no time!

If you have anything you would like to see on the website - please let Mrs Marshall or one of the web wizards know.

House Captains / Vice Captains
Our House Captains and Vice Captains are voted for each session by pupils. The children nominate themselves for the role and have lots of opportunities to help the school demonstrating their ability to be excellent role models to the younger children. They are most definately successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.
